The Colosseum, also referred to as the Ampatheratheather, was one great work of art. It was called an Ampatheratheather because “ampa” means two. The Colosseum started off as two theaters that were placed together. But instead of a circle it was an oval shaped arena. The Romans did not like a circle or square shape because if gladiators fought they would get stuck in a corner during a combat. As an oval, it would keep the gladiators moving around the arena. On the outside of the Colosseum there were many bronze statues. It had more than 150 water fountains and had 2 restrooms.
